Cowboy Killers Vase
Cowboy Killers Vase
Handmade “Cowboy Killers” stained glass vase with lettering etched & filled into the front facing glass. These guys are a lot more hefty than they look!
What are cowboy killers? What does this mean?
This design is Inspired by Marlboro cigarettes & the iconic Marlboro Man campaign that ran from 1954 to 1999. 5 of the Marlboro men suffered smoking related deaths & the nickname for Marlboro reds, “cowboy killers” emerged. Interesting wiki read if you wanna know more!
Availability
By far, these are my best seller & frequently sell out. I continuously create them however truth we told there’s no possible way for me to keep up with the Demand. If you would like to purchase one, & they are sold out, I suggest signing up for email notifications at the bottom of my website (Don’t worry, I send maybe 3 emails a year lol). Alternatively, if you are local essential Texas, I typically bring a couple with me to markets, feel free to send me a message or DM on Instagram if you plan to come by & i’ll set one aside!
How it’s made
Each piece of glass is cut to size, grinded down to a perfect fit, & wrapped in copper foil tape before being soldered together. The cover plate lettering is done by carefully applying a stencil & acid etching cream - this gives a light texture to the glass, so you’re able to feel the lettering, think of frosted glass! I then buff an acrylic enamel paint that is cured in the oven for a durable & long lasting result.
I have developed this method through a ton of experimenting, it isn’t the quickest lettering option but I really wanted to be able to feel it, have it be one with the glass (aka no vinyl stickers) & i’ve found this method also gives me a result that kinda looks like a heat brand!
What do I do with it?
I get this question a lot. from what I’ve seen the majority of people style it with dried flowers (Please let me know if you’re interested in getting a dried bouquet, Ive teamed up with The Gardner’s Wife, another small business, to create them!
It doesn’t have a defined purpose, it’s just art! You can do whatever you want with it, just please keep in mind the solder does contain lead - as long as you don’t lick its totally safe…just don’t use it as a toothbrush holder please 🙏 My dad is the reason i had to say this 🙄. My favorite use is a lung doctor who keeps it on his desk as a pen cup!
I do not recommend filling with water. They are not built with being water tight in mind. Sittinh water will deteriorate the solder lines, making the structure very brittle over time. I have had people tell me they filled theirs with flex seal to make it waterproof, up to you if you want to experiment!
