About Desert Willow Glass

Meet the Maker

Meet Kayla Burnett, the artisan behind Desert Willow Glass. Kayla began self-teaching Tiffany-style stained glass, which uses copper foil rather than the traditional lead, several years ago and is currently focused on desert motifs.

Kayla grew up in Fort Worth, Texas, and completed a B.S. in Geography from Texas State University. During her college internship, she drove glass-bottom boats and conducted field tours at the Meadows Center and Spring Lake, the headwaters of the San Marcos River. Following graduation, she set forth on a three-week road trip through the Southwest, where she fell in love with desert landscapes.

Kayla has found a much-needed sense of calm in hand-crafting items. She attempted several mediums before finding her passion in stained glass. Much of the work that goes into stained glass is a learned skill, similar to woodworking. It is complex yet simple, which has kept her hooked on learning and pushing herself artistically.

What started as a personal therapeutic outlet has blossomed into a vibrant community of like-minded friends and fellow artists. Through Desert Willow Glass, Kayla not only continues to explore the timeless artistry of stained glass but also shares her life and passions through her designs, creating a bond that goes beyond art.
